Overnight camping in a storm

These kids walked with me from the Mountain School to the bear orchard for a night of camping. We followed moose tracks into the orchard in a steady mix of snow and freezing rain. You can see where Danny and Kemi notice the camera and point it out to everyone, so we had to line up for a group portrait. It was a cold night in the orchard, but everybody built a sturdy tarp shelter and managed to stay warm and dry.

Sneaky moose

I made a quick trip to the orchard mid-day to put some things in order for the overnight camping trip with students. I saw the moose tracks, but didn't take the time to read them. When I later checked my camera's memory cards, I was surprised to find that this moose came through both before and after my visit. The second time she came through only 5 minutes after I did. Was she standing nearby watching me check my camera?
