The Spring

I found this spring at the top of the orchard in 2006. I followed the stream up Bloodroot Valley until it ended in a soggy pit of mud and leaves. A pool of water formed when I started digging, and soon I found remains of the rocks that settlers used to contain the spring. So I spent the next 5 years hauling flat rocks from a nearby stone wall to develop the spring to its current state. The final photos are my fall 09 English class discussing Frost’s “Directive” and John Elder with his dog, Shadow. John is the author of a wonderful book about “Directive,” Reading the Mountains of Home.
